Taylor, Miles Izates,1st Lt. Born in Walker County, Alabama on September 21, 1835. He was a lawyer in Winston County, Alabama at the outbreak of the war. Enlisted October 3, 1861 as 3rd Lt. Promoted to 1st Lt. on March 20, 1862. Commanded 26th Alabama Regiment, through attrition, by the end of the day at Chancellorsville on May 3, 1863. Wounded in foot (heel) and captured at Gettysburg on July 1, 1863. Admitted to West Walnut Street Hospital in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Turned over to Provost Marshall on October 28, 1863 and sent to Fort Delaware. Received at Johnson Island on November 25. Transferred to Point Lookout on March 21, 1865. Sent from Point Lookout to Fort Delaware on March 28 for exchange. Signed oath and released on June 12, 1865 with his residence listed as Marion County. His younger brother Eli C. Taylor had been killed in action around Bowling Green, KY. Moved to Forney, Kaufman County, Texas in 1873 and married Laura Alice Hindman, the daughter of a Cherokee Indian. Applied for pension on August 31, 1909 at age 74. He died August 15, 1912 and was buried in Kaufman City Cemetery. (Submitted by Pete Parrish).
