Cooper Cemetery, Winston County, Alabama, T11S R9W S22 COOPER, J.C. Died 1909 Notes: This is the only grave here. Jabez Curry Cooper was born in September of 1854 and died on July 21, 1909 in Walker County, AL. From "The History of the Clear Creek Baptist Association" by Jerry M. Burns. Elder J. Curry Cooper (according to Floyd Guthrie, Jabez/Jabus Curry Cooper). He was a brother of Elder Stancel C. Cooper. It is not known when or where he was born or began to preach. The writer heard Brother J.C. Cooper preach several times when he was pastor at Sardis No. 1. He could quote scripture with great ease. He was considered a rather able preacher. He was elected moderator in 1903 and served one year (1903-1904). Much effort has been made to get a fuller sketch of his life and his picture but without success. Brother Cooper pastored several churches during the 1890's and the first part of 1900 to 1910. He moved to Walker County and worked in the coal mines. He was killed while working there by a falling rock. He was buried about 6 miles southwest of Double Springs about 1908 or 1910. (The tombstone of J.C. Cooper says he died in 1909). We regret that so little information about Brother Cooper could be secured. Marriage bann of Francis Bell and Julia Ann Barton: February 5, 1904 by J.C.
