On Tuesday afternoon at 3:50 o’clock the Death Angel visited the home of John F. Curtis and carried away his beloved mother, Mrs. Lucinda Curtis’ who had been confined to her room for four weeks, and for the past two weeks had been entirely helpless and suffered a great deal. She was the wife of J.J. Curtis, who was killed during the war of 1863 by a home guard company near Jasper.

Mrs. Curtis leaves three children: Mrs. S. McCollum, Double Springs; Mrs. Nancy J. Fritts, Oklahoma and John F. Curtis, of this place she also leaves two sisters and two brothers; Mrs Nancy Brown and Mrs. Mary Smith, of Lamar County; J.J. Barker, Tula. Miss. and J.F. Barker, Texas.

Mrs Curtis was born in Fayette county November 13, 1825, and had been a resident of Winston for over fifty years. She had been a devout Christian all of her life and a member of the Baptist church for many years. Everyone who knew her always loved and honored her for the kind and cheerful disposition she enjoyed.

Funeral services were conducted at the grave in the Haleyville cemetery by Rev. N.J. Drewry yesterday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock.

The many friends of the family sympathize with them in their sad bereavement.
