Obituary. Elizabeth Stewart was born Nov. 12, 1862 and departed this life Nov. 16, 1909. She was the daughter of R.A. Cummings and was married to T.A. Stewart at about the age of 22. She professed faith in Christ in early childhood, and joined the M.E. Church, South, in which she lived until about 4 years ago when she went into the organization of Shady Grove C.M. Church, near her home. Her life work stands as a monument to her memory, she having built the church house and furnished it with a nice organ, lamps and bell with her own means, and has kept the cemetery like a flower garden; in fact it is the most beautiful I ever saw. The writer had the pleasure of visiting her several times during her last illness and her interest for the church was strong to the last and she stated a few hours before she passed away that she regretted to leave her afflicted husband and aged father who had resided with her since her mother passed away, which has been about seven years, and the little girl she was raising, and a lot of dear friends. But she said she had many dear friends that had done passed over. She had been a great sufferer for many years. She spent the last few hours of her life in trying to sing the sweet songs of Zion and praising the blessed Savior. The funeral services were conducted in the church by the minister assisted by Rev. J.H. Corbin Wednesday evening the 17th to a large congregation of sorrowing friends and relatives which attested the high esteem with which she was held. She leaves a husband and aged father to mourn her loss. Her pastor, W.J. Barker. [Elizabeth Stewart, 12 Nov 1862 – 16 Nov 1909; buried Blue Springs Cemetery]
