He married Mary Ann Davis in Morgan Co., AL May 8, 1849. Mary Ann died October 9, 1878. Jacob married Rhody Amena Ramsey November 14, 1886 in Scott County, Arkansas. Armstead (son of Joseph and Rebecca) was born March 1, 1812 and died March 23, 1882 in Winston Co., AL at age 74 and Celia applied for support based on her son's military service. Melvina was a daughter of Lewis Oden and Rosanna Jenkins. Jasper died in Morgan County 22 Dec 1891; Melvina died in Morgan County 7 Apr 1922. They are buried in Powel Chapel Cemetery on top of Lacon Mountain in Morgan County. He was appointed Corporal 1 Jan 1863 by Col. Spencer. Captured, he was sent to prison in Richmond, Virginia, but was exchanged and sent back to his company. Jasper was assigned as calvary escort to General Sherman on the march through Georgia. While in Savannah, he contracted smallpox. His tent and everything in it was ordered burned by Sherman. Later, he developed rheumatism and neuralgia of the face due to hard work in the Army and exposure to inclement weather.
