Death Claims J. D. Stone

HALEYVILLE-Death claimed J. D. Stone 79-year old Church of Christ Minister who lived on the Thorn Hill Road near Haleyville, at 9:05 P. M. Thursday, May 21, 1970.

Mr. Stone, who preached Sunday, May 10th at the Thorn Hill Church of Christ "Homecoming" day program for the 55th consecutive year, has been in ill health for some time but his sudden death was a shock to friends.

Cause of death was a heart condition.

Mr. Stone's wife is the former Lillie Dees, to whom he had been married for 61 years. He began preaching in 1913, and began his record-breaking decoration day preaching at Thorn Hill in 1915.

Bro. Stone had preached regularly each Sunday over radio station WJBB for the past 15 years.

Funeral services were held Saturday from the Thorn Hill Church, at 2:30 P. M. Bro. Stubby George was the officiating minister, and Nichols Funeral Home directed interment in the adjoining cemetery.

Survivors include his wife one; one son T. H. Stone (also a minister) of Birmingham; one daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Hulsey of Haleyville route; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
