Death of John T. Chenault
Submitted by Joann Holdbrooks

On Sunday morning the citizens of South Haleyville were startled to hear of the death of John T. Chenault. While he had been suffering from asthma for some time there had been no signs that death was near. About 9:00 at night he was taken with a smothering spell from which he failed to rally and quickly passed away.

It was first intended to have the funeral on Monday, but as two of his daughters live in Florida and could not get here in time, the burial was postponed until Wednesday and was held at Thornhill six miles Southwest of Haleyville.

He was a member of the Haleyville Lodge A. F. and A. M. having joined the Masonic Order in 1875 at Newburg, 49 years ago. The funeral was conducted by the Haleyville Lodge and in spite of the cold weather and bad roads, many were present and participated.

Mr. Chenault had been a resident of Haleyville or its vicinity for several years. A few years ago he moved out on a farm near Thornhill but a few months ago he gave up farming and moved to his daughter's, Mrs. A. C. Stone where he passed away. He would have been 70 years old next July.

He leaves a wife and son living at Albany [Decatur]; a daughter Mrs. Stone and two daughters in Florida. He also has several brothers living at Russellville, and Albany.
