Lewis A. Lay was born 1 Jun 1824 in Grainger County, Tennessee. He married Eunice Calvert. Lay enlisted in Company I of the 1st Alabama Cavalry, USA on 21 Jul 1862 in Huntsville and was mustered out 19 Jul 1865. He was buried in the Old Bethel Baptist Cemetery.
