Obituary. In memory of old Grandmother Sims, who departed this life July the 30th, 1909. She was in her 89th year, and had lived a faithful and devoted Christian life for many years, and had passed along the rugged path of life. She was faithful and true in every deportment of life. As she grew older in days she grew stronger in faith. As her eyes grew dim to the things of this world they grew brighter and brighter to the glories and happiness of that home beyond.

Many, many times have I met with her and kissed her way-worn cheeks, and talked of the troubles and tribulations of life and the glory of the happy home beyond, but alas, alas, she is gone. She bore her afflictions with patience. She was confined to her bed for weeks but never murmured, and at last God saw fit to take her home.

Dear children, she is not dead. Yonder in that City made of gold she is living in the presence of God. She is waiting for you and me. Let’s meet her in that sweet by and by where parting will come no more. Mrs. D.S. Smith.

[Marthie E. Sims, 20 Dec 1820 – 30 Jul 1909, Sardis Baptist Church #1 Cemetery]
