The Winston County Genealogical Society met at the Double Springs Community Center, being the first meeting of new President Diane Miller.

I. Minutes:

    1. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

    1. Checking Account: $1,002.84

B. Three checks, totaling $166.02, were written: 2 to print the trail tracker and one for postage. $100 was deposited for membership fees.

III. Old Business:

    1. How many members are to be on the Board of Directors was discussed. Three was voted on as the number to have. These three are: Carolyn Hunter, Ronald Jackson, and Darryal Jackson.
    2. A CPA or lawyer will need to go through the bylaws at a possible cost of $700 or $800. Joann will contact a CPA, and Darryal Jackson will contact Betty Denton of the Houston Historical Society. Diane Miller may contact Scott Shipman.
    3. Treva spoke with Sandy Horsley and Roger Hayes about the building. Hayes is in favor of us being in the building. Treva will go to a workshop meeting, and Darryal has hopes for us getting the old library for our use only.
    4. The idea of the second volume heritage book is being pitched to the Houston Historical Society. Rick Harris or Shane Cook might head the committee for it. Response at the Haleyville Historical Society was good. The publishing company wanted to know by the first of the year if Winston County decided to do the book. Diane Miller will get in touch with Shane and Rick.

  1. New Business:

    1. Joann wants to have a logo designed for the WCGS newsletter. Everyone will submit ideas.
    2. A possible upcoming story for the newsletter could be the one written by Jim Manasco’s father.
    3. While finishing the school districts, Darryal and P.J. found the old poll tax books, which contained the person’s full birth date. They were transcribed and added to the web site.
    4. Robin Sterling had submitted a story on Burkston, which turned out to be the Cranal community.

  1. Upcoming Events:

    1. A trip is planned to see the area of Cranal Saturday, January 20, 1:00 P.M. Everyone wanting to attend will need to meet at the Shiloh Church.
    2. Sock Hop, sponsored by all Winston County Civitan Clubs, will be held in Double Springs on Saturday, February 24, 2007.
    3. A Hee-Haw show will be on March 24, 2007, at 6:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Haleyville.
    4. The Heritage Ball will be on April 21, 2007, at 6:00 P.M. Tickets are $15 for single; $25 for a couple.
    5. The USO Show will be the Saturday before Veteran’s Day in November with a "1960s" theme; the show will honor the Vietnam War veterans.

    1. None. Members need to give suggestions and try to create a year in advance for the program.
