The Winston County Genealogical Society met at the Double Springs Community Center.

I. Minutes:

    1. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

    1. Checking Account: $1,122.84

III. Old Business:

    1. Houston did not respond well for the idea of the second volume heritage book. In the meantime, Carolyn will get rules and regulations on the procedures of it, but for now, it has been tabled.
    2. Treva and Joann will go over the bylaws and have everyone a copy for the next meeting.
    3. Treva spoke with Jerry Mobley and Roger Hayes about the building. There will be 10 feet for Dr. Blake’s material; a six-foot entrance; bathroom space in the back; an area for the newspapers; and the rest will be for us to use. A plan is needed. Ronald, Darryal, and Treva have volunteered one day a week to be there. Books, computer, copier, and tables we can furnish.
    4. Ruth Ferguson is working on the logo.

  1. New Business:

    1. Southern Living will be doing an article and pictures for the heritage ball.
    2. P.J. and Darryal will do a table at the sock hop in Double Springs on February 24th.
    3. Mr. and Mrs. L.W. Overton of Double Springs is being researched; we also had a query on a Kirkwood family from Winston County.
    4. Treva has started a wonderful book on obituaries from the Northwest Alabamian from April 1, 2005 to December 31, 2006. This book will be a work in progress.

  1. Program:

    1. For our program, we had a show and tell. Members brought various personal items of genealogical and historical significance. These items included pictures, diplomas, a pre-Civil War clock, and ancestral tools.
