The Winston County Genealogical Society met at the Double Springs Community Center.

I. Minutes:

    1. Minutes from the last meeting were read and approved.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

    1. There was no treasurer’s report, as Carolyn was absent.

III. Old Business:

    1. Copies of the bylaws were passed out. Everyone is encouraged to read the bylaws, and the society will approve them at the next meeting.
    2. Documentation may exist about not having another building built in the area of Dr. Blake’s house, which is where the new archives building has been built. Different groups are having conflicts between the look and the use of the new building. An article about the look of the building was recently on the front page of the Northwest Alabamian again. As of now, the work on the building is at a stand-still.
    3. Joann and P.J. will try to contact Ruth about the logo. Diane may contact Vicky Dean about getting students to do a logo.

IV. New Business:

    1. April 21st is the day of the heritage ball. Diane has tickets available. Southern Living and possibly Fox 6 news will be there.
    2. A wonderful poem about the Riddle family of Winston County was passed around.
    3. Joann has done a wonderful job with the newsletter, which is out. A main article discusses times of the CCC camps.
    4. There will be a workshop that includes an ancestor swap the last weekend in March, which will be sponsored by the Northeast Alabama Genealogical Society. Forms are available for anyone interested in attending.
    5. The speaker at the next meeting will be Carla Waldrop, from the Haleyville Public Library.
    6. On May 19th, there will be a reef laying at the Garrison-Payne Cemetery. Anyone wishing to attend should meet at Antioch Church at 1:00. Sons of the American Revolution, Warrior River Chapter, will attend.
    7. Cleaning of the Old Lovett Cemetery will be in June. We will discuss this further at the May meeting.

  1. Program:

    1. Our program consisted of good-natured laughter as we each tried to fill a pedigree chart on our family, all from memory.
