The Winston County Genealogical Society met at the Double Springs Community Center.
I. Minutes:
- Minutes from the last meeting were read and approved.
II. Treasurer’s Report:
- None
III. Old Business:
- The archives building has a wooden frame up. Trevia spoke with Roger Hayes and gave him a copy of how big our rooms need to be. The petitions, ceiling, sheet rock, heating, and air will be done by the county commission.
- Darryal is still working on the savings bond for the unofficial logo.
- Joann is working on the official logo. She will have a rough draft of it at the next meeting.
IV. New Business/Upcoming Events:
- There will be a wreath laying at the Garrison-Payne Cemetery on May 19, 2007, starting at 1:30 P.M.
- The cleanup of the Old Lovett Cemetery will be on Saturday, June 16, 2007. Those interested shall meet at Union Grove Church at 9:00 A.M.
- The 1901 New Era newspaper CD is now available. Haleyville Public Library has a microfilm reader and printer that has the capability to transfer the microfilm image to CD.
- Diane Miller brought attention to the Houston Historical Society, involving the Houston Jail. It was voted upon and accepted to donate $200 for the purpose of helping to preserve the jail. Darryal will see Carolyn about the check.
- We will have a country dinner at our next meeting in June. Items to bring: Faye- Turnip Greens; Ronald Jackson- Cornbread; P.J.- Fruit and Black-Eyed Peas; Joann- Peach Cobbler; Joyce- Sweet Potatoes; Diane and Trevia- Kentucky Fried Chicken; Ronald Pearson- Ice and Iced Tea; Darryal- Plates and Utensils.
V. Program:
- Jerry Lovett spoke to us about his Lovett ancestors and his recent involvement in researching his family tree.
