The Winston County Genealogical Society met at the Double Springs Community Center.

I. Minutes:

    1. Minutes from the last meeting were read and approved.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

    1. None

III. Old Business:

    1. The archives building has a wooden frame up. Trevia spoke with Roger Hayes and gave him a copy of how big our rooms need to be. The petitions, ceiling, sheet rock, heating, and air will be done by the county commission.
    2. Darryal is still working on the savings bond for the unofficial logo.
    3. Joann is working on the official logo. She will have a rough draft of it at the next meeting.

IV. New Business/Upcoming Events:

    1. There will be a wreath laying at the Garrison-Payne Cemetery on May 19, 2007, starting at 1:30 P.M.
    2. The cleanup of the Old Lovett Cemetery will be on Saturday, June 16, 2007. Those interested shall meet at Union Grove Church at 9:00 A.M.
    3. The 1901 New Era newspaper CD is now available. Haleyville Public Library has a microfilm reader and printer that has the capability to transfer the microfilm image to CD.
    4. Diane Miller brought attention to the Houston Historical Society, involving the Houston Jail. It was voted upon and accepted to donate $200 for the purpose of helping to preserve the jail. Darryal will see Carolyn about the check.
    5. We will have a country dinner at our next meeting in June. Items to bring: Faye- Turnip Greens; Ronald Jackson- Cornbread; P.J.- Fruit and Black-Eyed Peas; Joann- Peach Cobbler; Joyce- Sweet Potatoes; Diane and Trevia- Kentucky Fried Chicken; Ronald Pearson- Ice and Iced Tea; Darryal- Plates and Utensils.

V. Program:

    1. Jerry Lovett spoke to us about his Lovett ancestors and his recent involvement in researching his family tree.
