The Winston County Genealogical Society met at the Double Springs Community Center.
I. Minutes:
- Minutes from the last meeting were read and approved.
II. Treasurer’s Report:
- Checking Account: $1,137.98
- Expenses (Since June): Postage: $37.02; Printing: $96.00; P.O. Box: $18.00
III. Old Business:
- We will set a date in October for cleaning the Capsey Creek/Freeman Cemetery in September. P.J. will contact forest service about cleaning it.
- The cleaning of Old Lovett Cemetery has been postponed until next spring.
- Diane will contact Chad Fell about the designation of Maxwell Bridge as an historic landmark.
- Darryal has gone to three post offices and mailed the newsletter CD with different shipping prices at each. Six has been sold so far.
- The air conditioner at the archives building is already working; we may get in it by Christmas.
IV. New Business/Upcoming Events:
- Don Dodd will donate an 8mm projector to the society.
- Robin Sterling did not accept payment for giving our program last month, and he also donated a book to the society. This donation is $75.
- Steve Turner made a presentation on John Anthony Winston. An historic monument may be placed in Houston on him. Steve shared pictures of previous markers placed by the SCV and gave a short history of CSS Alabama.
- Knight Reunion is Sunday, August 25, at 12:30 at the West House in Haleyville.
- The USO show will be November 3, 2007, at 7:00 at the Haleyville Elementary School. The theme this year will be on the 1960s and Vietnam.
- 2008 will be the 150th anniversary of Winston County. We need to be thinking of what we can do as a society.
V. Program:
- Our program was the movie of the wreath laying at Garrison-Payne Cemetery on May 19, 2007.
