The Winston County Genealogical Society met at the Double Springs Community Center.

I. Minutes:

    1. Minutes from the last meeting were read and approved.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

    1. None

III. Old Business:

    1. Clyde Mobley has passed away. He is the person we contact for permission to go to Old Lovett Cemetery. Diane will speak to his wife about our going to the cemetery.
    2. The date to clean the Freeman/Capsey Creek Cemetery is September 29, 2007. P.J. will contact Liz Elrod about what she and her relatives can provide and will e-mail everyone with directions and information. Plans are to meet at Enmondfield Church at 8:00 A.M.
    3. Treva has taken pictures of inside the archives building. It looks nice.

IV. New Business/Upcoming Events:

    1. Tickets are on sale for the USO show on November 3rd.
    2. Don Umphrey, author of Southerners in Blue: They Defied the Confederacy, will be presenting a play at Phillips High School on Saturday, November 17. On November 15, he will be presenting three ledger books his ancestor kept at John R. Phillips Store in Thorn Hill to the Haleyville Library and will do a program. Our November meeting will be moved to November 15, 2007, at the Haleyville Library at 6:00 P.M. On Sunday, November 18, he will also have a group to go to the "rock house" in the Natural Bridge area.
    3. Three or four juveniles have recently gone in to Mount Hope Cemetery in Arley and destroyed many of the tombstones. A meeting will be held September 19, 9:30, at Arley Town Hall. Darryal may go and represent the society.
    4. A meeting will be held October 6, on CCC camps in this area. An expert will give a presentation.
    5. A poker run to benefit the Houston Historical Society will be held on October 6.
    6. Don Dodd has donated an 8mm Bell and Howell projector to the society.
    7. Davis Cemetery, behind the old Belbro’s building in Haleyville, is in danger, as repairs are being made on the building. The Haleyville Historical Society have plans to put a fence around it and get signs for it.
    8. A card was bought for Joann and all present signed it. Her sister, Geraldine, has recently passed away.

V. Program:

    1. Steve Turner brought a video on the last confederate burial (in Magnolia Cemetery in Mobile). He was from the CSS Alabama and was killed outside of France.
