The Winston County Genealogical Society met at the Double Springs Community Center.

I. Minutes:

    1. Minutes from the last meeting were read and approved.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

    1. None

III. Old Business:

    1. Darryal went to Arley Town Hall on September 19, 2007, to the meeting about the vandalism of Mount Hope Cemetery. The juveniles will be doing community service, be on probation, and have to pay restitution to the families of the damaged tombstones.
    2. Diane and Treva will meet with Jerry Mobley about newspaper representation for the society for the grand opening of the archives building.

IV. New Business/Upcoming Events:

    1. The society will have its November meeting on Thursday, November 15, 2007, at 5:30 P.M. at the Haleyville Library.
    2. The Houston Jail has been taken apart due to its deterioration, and the pieces will be reassembled with replacements of the boards that were bad. It was discovered that the jail had over 8500 nails in it and the rock underneath was scorched. Houston Heritage Day will be on October 27, 2007, with the parade starting at 10:00 A.M.
    3. Darryal has keys to the rock building in Double Springs. It will be used as a meeting place for the second heritage book. A group of people will be created from all organizations to do this. Permission was given to Darryal to move some of our material and copier to this new location, prior to the move in the new archives building.
    4. Nominations will be at for new officers at the November meeting.
    5. Diane will contact Joann about updates on the newsletter.
    6. There will be a hay ride to Aunt Jenny’s place by Carla Waldrop and her husband on October 22, 2007.
    7. Treva, her son Wesley, Darryal, and P.J. met and cleaned the Freeman/Capsey Creek Cemetery on September 29, 2007.
