The Winston County Genealogical Society met at the Haleyville Public Library at 5:30 P.M.

I. Minutes:

    1. Minutes from the last meeting were read and approved.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

    1. None

III. Old Business:

    1. Nominations is put off until January.
    2. Joann is doing the December newsletter. Guidelines will be set in January.
    3. Treva and Diane met with Jerry Mobley and Sheila Moore. He indicated that we may be in the archives building by the first of the year. A grant for someone to man the archives is being looked at.
    4. Diane spoke with Chad Fell about newspaper representation for the society.

IV. New Business/Upcoming Events:

    1. The Christmas meeting will be at Walt and Phils’ (Papa’s Place) in Haleyville on Thursday, December 13, 2007, at 6:30 P.M. Diane will contact them about reservations.
    2. 1919-1927 Georgia death certificates are online at the Georgia Archives web site.
    3. Diane will write open letters to members at the first of the year about updates.

V. Program:

    1. Don Umphrey spoke about the civil war history of Winston and Marion Counties, including our ancestors during this time frame and Southern Claims Commission research. He donated three ledger books to the Haleyville Library that his ancestor, John R. Phillips, kept for his store in this area in the 1870s and 1880s.
