The Winston County Genealogical Society met at the Winston County Archives in Double Springs.

I. Minutes:

    1. Minutes from the last meeting were read and approved.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

    1. Checking Account: $1,389.21
    2. $310 in deposits were made.

III. Old Business:

    1. The bald rock trip was canceled because of bad weather in January and has been rescheduled for Saturday, February 23, 2008, 10:30 A.M. at Concord Church in Natural Bridge. Wear orange and bring a snack.
    2. At least 130 people attended the open house for the archives. Diane will ask the Haleyville Historical Society for volunteers.
    3. Houston Heritage Day was a success and a great turn out despite the bad weather on the 150th anniversary of Winston County.
    4. Members of the society met on February 9th and 16th for work days at the archives.

IV. New Business/Upcoming Events:

    1. A writers’ workshop will be on March 11, 2008, at 6:00 P.M. in the basement of the Traders and Farmers building. A new society may be formed from this.
    2. Diane can get incorporation papers for us at about $200 or less. A motion was made by P.J. for her to contact the lawyers. The motion carried.
    3. Diane mentioned to the Haleyville Historical Society that the archives is open and that we need people to donate items. Jerry Jackson and the Haleyville Historical Society will raise the money for our computers. Any money they raise, they will keep it as they are incorporated, but it will be earmarked for the archives. Treva made a motion to do so, and the motion carried.
    4. A 1915 newspaper is at the archives and is not on microfilm or as a hard copy in Montgomery. Robin Sterling may copy it.
    5. A computer that has enough space and memory for our purposes is available for $100. A motion was made by P.J. to buy the computer. Diane seconded.
    6. The Winston County Archives Committee (WCAC) is creating guidelines for materials coming into the archives. The committee meets every first Monday night at 6:30 and is as follows: Chairperson: Sandy Horsley; Co-Chairperson: Evelyn Bobo; Secretary: Treva Hood; Treasurer: Terry Pearson; Members: Sheila Moore, Marcia Manasco, Marcia Pigg, Ronnie Wilson, Rick Harris, Larry Albright, Dianne Miller, Bill Ford, and Pete Parrish.
    7. As part of the 150th anniversary, P.J., Rick Harris, and Don Dodd is working on creating a list of county road names, so the original names can be shown on signs separate from the 911 signs.
