The Winston County Genealogical Society met at Winston County Archives in Double Springs.
I. Minutes:
- Minutes from the last meeting were read. A motion to accept the minutes as approved was made by Darryal and seconded by Joyce.
II. Treasurer’s Report:
- None
III. Old Business:
- The newsletter has been printed and released.
- Margaret and Kenneth Ward are the new volunteers for Tuesdays at the archives.
- Treva is over halfway complete on photographing the first marriage book.
- Volunteers at the archives are going through old newspapers compiling births, marriages, and deaths.
- The Bankhead hiking trip is tentatively planned at the end of October or the beginning of November. Details will be discussed at the October meeting.
IV. New Business/Upcoming Events:
- The Haleyville Historical Society will host a murder mystery titled "Murder on Byler Road" on October 10th.
- P.J. is compiling a new article on weather records for the next newsletter.
- Joyce Farris donated six census index CDs and one Alabama Death CD to the society. Dianne Miller has also donated many CDs and material.
- On September 11th, Fox 6 in Birmingham aired a short documentary on Natural Bridge, part of a series titled "Absolutely Alabama."
V. Program:
- Gene Godsey gave a program on the High Town Indian Path, Byler Road, and a history of Indian activity in Northwest Alabama.
