The Winston County Genealogical Society met at Winston County Archives in Double Springs.

I. Minutes:

    1. Minutes from the last meeting were read. A motion to accept the minutes as approved was made by Joann and seconded by Treva.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

    1. Checking - $1,542.08

III. Old Business:

    1. The Bankhead Tour is planned for Saturday, November 7th. We will meet at Shiloh Church in the Rabbittown area at 12:30. Stops along the way include Turkey Foot Falls, Kinlock Falls/Hubbard’s Mill, Aunt Jenny Johnston’s grave and homesite, and a natural bridge off Hwy. 243.
    2. Treva has completed photographing the first marriage book and is working on getting the images in order to be put on CD.
    3. P.J. brought up an item of old business concerning dues, of which was discussed that since membership has remained the same, the $20.00 annual dues will remain in effect.

IV. New Business/Upcoming Events:

    1. The Winston County Commission has approved all of the budget for the archives building. This will include lights, cleaning, phone, Internet, etc.
    2. A newsletter committee has been started for a newsletter theme for each newsletter quarter next year. Those on the committee are P.J., Joann, Joyce, Dianne, and Carol Ingram.
    3. The "Murder on Byler Road" murder-mystery was a tremendous success for the Haleyville Historical Society with a great turn-out.
    4. Our microfiche machine has not been used, and all present agreed for Dianne to ask Carla Waldrep at the Haleyville Public Library if she wanted it.
    5. Donations: Steve Turner donated a rendering of the monument and jail at Houston; Joyce Farris donated a CD of images of some of the original loyalty oaths located in Montgomery; Robin Sterling donated a DVD from Alabama Public Television titled "Tracing the Free State of Winston;" and Gary Weilmuenster donated a painting he created of Caney Creek Falls.
    6. Queries are coming in to the Winston County Archives e-mail address. They were passed around for everyone to read and respond to.
    7. P.J. asked the society for permission to video speakers for inclusion on YouTube. Everyone agreed as long as the speaker agreed to it.
    8. Our Christmas meeting on December 15th has been tentatively set at Captain Dave’s in Haleyville.

V. Program:

    1. Members brought in pensions, military records, loyalty oaths, etc. to help the archives start a veterans’ file.
