The Winston County Genealogical Society met at Winston County Archives in Double Springs.

I. Minutes:

    1. Minutes from the last meeting were read and approved.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

    1. Checking - $1,455.65

    2. Deposits - $80.00
    3. Checks – 1 - $166.43 for copier cartridge

III. Old Business:

    1. The society will have the Christmas meeting at Captain Dave’s in Haleyville on December 15th, at 6:30 P.M.
    2. Treva has completed photographing the first marriage book and all images are in order and copied to CD. The probate judge has been given a copy.
    3. Members met on November 7th for the tour in the Sipsey Wilderness and Bankhead Forest.

IV. New Business/Upcoming Events:

    1. Robin Sterling recently visited the archives and donated 14 books and 8 microfilm reels and is working on a Winston County cemetery book. Joyce donated Willis Farris’ file concerning when he was in the House of Representatives. Dianne donated an autographed copy of Annals of Northwest Alabama, Vol. II by Carl Elliott plus a list of Winston County Confederate Pensioners containing actual signatures.
    2. Due to AlaNu Internet Solutions closing down, and after nine years, the web site has a new URL: www.freestateofwinston.org.
    3. The Winston County Archives now has a telephone and Internet. The number is 205-489-5035.
    4. Rick Harris spoke to us about the Winston County Heritage Book, Vol. II. It should be here by December 1st. Because of the 150th anniversary celebration committee being dissolved, Rick asked us to take over the sales, distribution, and handling of the books. Four hundred copies were published with 150 pre-sold. Current distribution dates will be December 4th and 5th at the Haleyville Public Library and December 7th and 8th at the Winston County Archives. Books may be available at Traders and Farmers Bank later on. The society discussed efforts to coordinate this project, but we will need further discussion with treasurer Carolyn Hunter.

V. Program:

    1. Jerry Jackson reminisced with us about main street in Haleyville.
