The Winston County Genealogical Society met at Winston County Archives in Double Springs.

I. Minutes:

    1. Minutes from the last meeting were read. Ronald made a motion to accept the minutes and Darryal seconded. The motion carried.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

    1. Checking - $1,475.55
    2. Deposits - $145.00
    3. Checks – 1 - $40.00 for post office box rent

    III. Old Business:

      1. Carla Waldrep is in charge of selling the second volume of Heritage Books. Businesses that are selling them include the Winston County Archives, Traders and Farmers Bank, and the Arley Library. They are selling well.

    IV. New Business/Upcoming Events:

      1. Ronald made a motion to keep the same officers from 2009 for 2010. The motion carried.
      2. Brochures have been printed for the archives.
      3. Dues are due. Mail checks or money orders to the Winston County Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 112, Double Springs, AL 35553.
      4. Dianne is checking on getting either Ancestry.com or Heritage Quest for the archives. When she obtains a rate, we will then discuss it further.
      5. Carla Waldrep will accept our loan of microfilm to view in the Alabama Room at the Haleyville Public Library. Trevia will be in touch with Carla.
      6. Donations: Carolyn Riddle has donated a church directory for the First Methodist Church in Haleyville, as well as a Liberty Grove Centennial booklet. Dianne donated her family file of 24,000 plus names. Joann has donated Ancestry and Alabama Heritage magazines, 3 Walking Back in Time books from Walker County, Alabama Genealogical Society magazines, plus miscellaneous magazines.
      7. Ronald mentioned that the archives is accepting donations of all types of annuals, including schools and churches, of Winston County.
      8. The road signs project is underway again. P.J. made a motion that a committee be formed to use the $2,000 to order the signs and get them placed. The motion carried. Those on the committee are P.J., Don Dodd, Darryal, Rick Harris, and Ronald.
      9. P.J. has done a book on his genealogy, showcasing the features of Lulu.com. For the great quality that they provide for creating books at a low price, with the opportunity to sell online at Amazon and Barnes and Noble, the society has opted to create a book. All who are interested in getting the project started, we are meeting the first and third Monday nights of the month at 5:30 P.M. at the archives. At the first meeting on February 1st, you are asked to bring a list of items to include in the book. Examples include pertinent stories from the web site and newsletters.
      10. Queries were passed around.
