IV. New Business/Upcoming Events:

    1. Carolyn Hunter has resigned her position as treasurer and her seat on the board of directors, effective April 20, 2010, 6:30 P.M. Her resignation was accepted, and Dianne opened the floor for nominations for the election of treasurer. Treva nominated Peter J. Gossett, seconded by Darryal. After no other nominations, P.J. was elected treasurer. Darryal nominated Jerry Lovett to fill the vacancy in the board of directors, seconded by Carol. Joann nominated Kenneth Ward for an additional seat on the board of directors, yet he declined. After no other nominations, Jerry was elected to the board of directors.
    2. Darryal made a motion to amend the bylaws to incorporate the duties of corresponding secretary to the recording secretary position, thus consolidating the two into one secretary position and combining the secretary and treasurer offices. The motion was seconded by Pauline, and the motion carried.
    3. Darryal made a motion for P.J. to purchase a safe deposit box and to choose the box at whichever place is convenient for him and to also have a second name on the box. Treva seconded, and the motion carried.
    4. Robin Sterling has three new books ready to be released toward the end of this month. They are a two volume set of cemetery books and an early newspaper items book. Dianne proposed that the society buy a set of these books for the archives. Ronald made a motion to buy, Darryal seconded, and the motion carried.
    5. Sheila Moore, Probate Judge, would like to back-scan two of the older marriage books for preservation. Approximate price for this is $1,700, and the society will also receive an image CD of the marriage book. After discussion, Darryal made a motion to donate money to process one book, seconded by Karon, and the motion carried.
    6. Dianne has permission from the Haleyville Historical Society to sell the new book in a booth at the 911 Festival in Haleyville.
    7. Due to upcoming reunions, festivals, and decorations, and if the book is still selling, it was voted on for P.J. to order 60 more copies when we start getting low. Darryal made the motion, seconded by Jerry, and the motion carried.
    8. Darryal will contact Jim Manasco about speaking at one of our meetings, and Carol will try to get a group from Smith Lake for a speaker.
