The Winston County Genealogical Society met at Winston County Archives in Double Springs.

I. Minutes:

    1. Minutes from the last meeting were read. Treva made a motion to accept the minutes as read, seconded by Ronald, and the motion carried.

II. Treasurer’s Report (Since June 15):

    1. Checking - $3,216.74
    2. Heritage Book - $1,751.00
    3. Deposits since last meeting: 3, totaling $272.07
    4. Checks written since last meeting: 1 year membership to Ancestry.com ($155.40); and postage for Trail Tracker ($36.60).
    5. Total - $3,034.21

III. Old Business:

    1. P.J. asked about the previous amendment to the bylaws concerning the word "written." He wanted to know if the treasury report in the minutes would fall under the "written" report, and it will.
    2. Jerry checked with the Jeff Grice Insurance Agency about bonding the treasurer, and the price on that would range from $50 to $100. Someone from the society will be contacting Mr. Grice on getting this set up. Jerry also checked on the indemnification for the board of directors and found that it would cost too much for an organization as small as ours.
    3. New lighting has been ordered for the archives and should be in soon.
    4. Treva ordered Ancestry.com, and it can now be accessed at the archives.

IV. New Business/Upcoming Events:

    1. We have a new member and volunteer. Her name is Cindy Guthrie, and starting August 1, she will be helping us to staff the archives on Wednesdays, making us open three days a week.
    2. Dr. Joe Teal is framing a collage of the Feldman/Palmer house and donating it to us. Next year is the 100th anniversary of the Feldman building. He is asking for suggestions on what to do.
    3. Treva and Dianne interviewed the oldest surviving World War II female of Winston County. Her name is Ozena Burrell, who married Paul Barber. She was stationed in Washington, D.C. Look for an article in one of the upcoming newsletters.
    4. Gary Weilmuenster has generously donated paintings of area monuments and buildings to the archives. He may reproduce the paintings into postcards for sell.
    5. Sam Weaver passed away on July 4th. Some of his material may be available for donation to Darryal and the WCGS.
