The Winston County Genealogical Society met at Winston County Archives in Double Springs.
I. Minutes:
- Minutes from the last meeting were read and approved. Trevia made a motion to accept the minutes as read; Darryal seconded; and the motion carried.
II. Treasurer’s Report (Since September 21):
- Checking - $3,326.74
- Heritage Book - $1,301.00 (deduction of $450 for TV & VCR/DVD combo)
- Deposits since last meeting: $87.85
- Checks written since last meeting: $389.57 ($36.60 for postage for Trail Tracker & $352.97 for toner and paper)
- Total - $4,627.74
III. Old Business:
- Our bylaws need further updating. Trevia noted that Article 4, Section 5 should be updated to reflect our current nominations of officers. Darryal made a motion to change the bylaws to read to the effect as follows: "All nominations and voting of officers shall be at the January meeting." Joyce seconded, and the motion carried.
- Our bond application, which is a dishonesty policy, has been filled out and will be mailed soon. It is from Byars and Associates, Inc. in Jasper. This bond is $150 per year.
IV. New Business/Upcoming Events:
- Trevia purchased our new TV and VCR/DVD combo from Walmart, and it is setup and ready for use in the archives.
- New shelving has been purchased from the archives and is in use. Also, new paintings and photographs are at the archives.
- Dianne appointed Ronald, Darryal, and Joyce to look over the treasurer’s records for the yearly fulfillment of our bylaws.
- A grave dedication will be held for Aunt Jenny Johnston at the Poplar Springs Cemetery in the Bankhead Forest on October 24th at 2:00.
- Robin Sterling has completed transcribing all available Southern Claims Commission files and is currently on the web site. For those that are unavailable, he has hired a researcher at the national archives to see if they can be found.
V. Program:
- Our program was carried over from the last meeting. We watched an interview of Mavis Wooten.
