The Winston County Genealogical Society met at the Winston County Archives in Double Springs.

I. Minutes:

    1. Minutes from the last meeting were read. Ronald made a motion to accept the minutes as read; PJ seconded and the motion carried.

II. Treasurer’s Report (As of July 19):

    1. Checking - $4,588.87

III. Petty Cash Report:

    1. No petty cash report

IV. Old Business:

    1. Treva reported that Walker County sent us 3 Cemetery books instead of 2.
    2. Darryal has not had time to check on the barn as of yet.
    3. Sheila or Jerry have not spoken to the Walker County Probate Judge concerning the Winston newspapers.

V. New Business:

    1. Darryal suggested we purchase an external hard drive to insure we do not lose Any of the data we are imputing on the computers. Also discussed fire proof Safes or other emergency saving procedures. Dianne said they will discuss Emergency contingency plans at the up coming Board meeting for the Archives. Darryal the made a motion for Cindy to purchase external hard Drive and Jerry and Carol seconded and the motion carried.
    2. Darryal made a motion that we send Shelia Wallace the Trailtracker for the Rest of the year Jerry seconded and the motion carried.
    3. Knight reunion is 28 August 2011 at the West House
    4. Trevia brought in the book “Day of Devastation” about the tornado’s of April 27, 2011. She suggested we purchase a copy for the Archives Ronald made a motion that we purchase a copy of the book for the Archives Carol Ann seconded and the motion carried.
    5. Trevia also donated books Historical Statistics of the South 1790-1970, Memories of Nauvoo, Singing Wheels, and Jonica’s Island
    6. Steve Turner also donated a book “ Tories of the Hills” as well as the Original discharge papers of George Boxley from 1865. We will try to find A sleeve for protection to keep it in.
    7. We reimbursed PJ $30.34 for cost of domain
    8. Ronald suggested that if we come across any graves that we know are lost To make the correct entries into our cemetery books.

VI. Program:

    1. Darryal presented a program on the old Main Street of Double Springs. He took us Back in time to old main street and surrounding areas. We were able to revisit old Locations through the pictures he handed out. He reminded us of the way the down Town used to be a look. As well as the people that lived during that time. Excellent Program.
