The Winston County Genealogical Society met at the Winston County Archives in Double Springs.

I. Minutes:

A. Minutes from the last meeting were read. Jerry Lovett made a motion to

accept the minutes as read; PJ Gossett seconded and the motion carried.

II. Treasurer’s Report ( As of January 31):

A. Checking - $4170.67

III. Petty Cash Report:

A. No petty cash

IV. Old Business:

A. Nothing new on the barn both Dianne and Darryal will both try to check into it.

B. Dianne mentioned the new copier being installed and up and running. Trevia

Mentioned that the new printer was $112.20 and that her and Dianne made the

Decision not to purchase another external hard drive as Trevia would just take

The external hard drive home with her every week.

D. Dianne asked Jerry Lovett to tell everyone about the field trip to the Rock House. Jerry

Said that the field trip was a success that fun was had by all. That there

Is 2 entrances with a big yellow school bus on top. There used to be a spring running

In the middle of it. Jerry went on to say that it was a joy to see something that served

The first settlers of this area. That Flora Baccus the owner enjoyed the day as well. The

First church was where the cemetery is now. Remembered Uncle Arthur teaching Sunday

School and how cold it got.

E. Dianne explained that our taxes had been completed and sent to Joe Downs at a cost of $260.00

V. New Business:

A. Introduced Gordon Rush as a new member

B. Trevia mentioned that Dekalb County has volume 2 pioneed book at a cost of $68.40

That it would be an asset to the Archives to purchase a copy. Jerry Lovett made motion

To purchase the book PJ seconded it.

C. Dianne mentioned that the Haleyville historical society is having their murder mystery on

25 of February that it would be nice if we supported them as they are always willing to help

Us in any way they can.

D. Dianne mentioned that the field trip to find arrowheads needed to be put off until the land

Is plowed. That you can do what you want with your own property but not with others..

E. Darryal Jackson mentioned that a good trip would be to Stephenson Springs that it is a

Mineral springs. That it is 100 yards in and 100 out . That he would be glad to take us out

To explore if we wanted to.

F. Carolyn Riddle Kooyer presented a program on William Oden 1st Alabama Cavalry. She

Brought William Oden’s bugle and we were all able to hold and look at it. As well as a

Framed picture of John Carter who had on his Union Uniform that he wore during the “silver”

War. George Americk, Bill Elkins sent to Decatur on way back to days gap they saw a man

Coming towards them. Bill Looney shot this man causing everyone to panic. John Carter who

Was 19 was sitting was to ask why when he was shot in the head and killed along with Phillip

Sutton. She had some very interesting pictures and stories of her family. We enjoyed her

Program as she allowed us to scan the pictures and documents she had with her. We could

Listen to her talk about her family and the stories that she has been told for hours.
