The Winston County Genealogical Society met at Winston County Archives in Double Springs.

  1. Minutes:
    1. Minutes from the last meeting were read. Carolyn Hunter made motion to accept the minutes as read Joyce Farris seconded; the motion carried.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

    1. Checking $3,786.34 as of June 30,2012
    2. No Petty Cash Report

III. Old Business:

    1. Discussed the marriage books, Shelia said $1050.00 would be the cost and that we could pay 80% and let others come up with the 20%. Decided to table the discussion until we have more information on the books. Ronald Jackson asked to explain the books to the attendees that didn’t know what they were.
    2. The 1940 Census is complete and printed available for use here at the Archives.
    3. Dianne said the inventory is completed and she is thrilled beyond measure.
    4. Shelia is going to Walker County herself to check on newspapers.

    1. Trevia introduced her friend and family member Robin Sterling. He has written Several books about Winston County. He also has documented all the cemeteries In Winston County in 9 volumes, 11 volumes of newspaper items, 7 volumes of Confederate soldiers, plus several other miscellaneous research books. There are people who you can listen to for hours and Robin is one of those. To listen to him speak about the research he has and is doing is something I think this audience could have done for several hours.
