The Winston County Genealogical Society met at Winston County Archives in Double Springs.

  1. Minutes:
    1. Minutes from the last meeting were read. Ronald Jackson made motion to accept the minutes as read PJ Gossett seconded; the motion carried.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

    1. Checking $3,786.34 +50.00+51.95-25.00=$3,863.29
    2. 5/9/2012-8/20/2012 Balance $133.13

III. Old Business:

    1. Shelia has not been to Jasper to get our newspapers yet. She will call Judge Allison and set up an appointment.
    2. Dianne asked about the barn progress Ronald Jackson said the owner had the tin and wood that is needed. That they are waiting on him to get it there. A member of the Panorama Study Club talked to Faye Ellenburg and indicated they would like to help.

IV. New Business:

  3. B. The Knight reunion is Sunday August 26, 2012 the Taylor reunion will be October
  4. 6th the Archives will be open to accommodate them.
  5. D PJ reported that the September newsletters are finished. He stated that the Dec.
  6. Newsletter is in need of material.

V. Program:

Steve Turner was our guest speaker. He donated a book on Fayette County Alabama, some WWII misc history, some Kinlock information and a copy of a hand written document showing David Hibbard buying slaves in 1863. Steve also gave a report on the R.E. "Dick" Payne monument. They have raised about $7,000.00 of the $10,000.00 needed and welcome all donations. After this he showed a video of the Dick Payne grave dedication at Pine Torch in Lawrence County. He ordered a military marker for Green V. West and will contact us when a time is set. The WCGS appreciates so much the time and hard work Steve has contributed to Winston County.
