Old Business:

    1. P.J. reported that the AL Dept. of Archives and History did not find any information on the murder of Peyton Baughn.
    2. P.J. also reported he has finished the December and March newsletters.
    3. Treva reported the final price on the Free State of Winston Books was $832.44 instead of the original quote of $993.94.
    4. Ronald assessed the roof on the Free State Barn as being 80% done. Working on the Barn have been: Ronald and his grandson Damion, Darryal Jackson and Terril Hood.
    5. Ronald suggested we ask Judge Moore about the status of scanning marriage book 3. Treva and Dianne will ask her at the next Archives Board of Directors meeting.

New Business:

    1. The Archives opened on Saturday, October 6th, for the Taylor Reunion. A large number of persons visited. They donated pictures and several books were bought. The Taylor DNA project has made progress and Ronald reported on that.
    2. P.J. brought up an idea about the 1948 Crittenden Store grand opening. He is trying to find an original copy of the movie taken on this day. He asked the Society of we would donate financially to have this movie transferred to a DVD. He is checking further into prices.
    3. Glenda Todd McWhirter’s new book "Unionists in the Heart of Dixie: 1st AL CAV." has just been released. Darryal made a motion and Jerry Lovett seconded to purchase a copy for $42.00 plus shipping. Motion was approved.
    4. Treva reported there will be an Ashridge Historical Day on November 10th. She has put together a folder that tells about the history of Ashridge and Lakeman School for this event.
    5. The Archives has had many book donations during the last month.
    6. Treva reported about several pre-1891 marriages she found on the Fold 3 website that the Archives has a subscription to.
    7. Ronald discussed the Sacred Harp 1944 Centennial Jubilee Celebration booklet that was donated by a member of the Taylor Reunion. This has many names of citizens who attended and helped with funds.
    8. Dianne asked the Society to think about ways we can improve our attendance. She asked if we should start having meetings every two months instead of each month. It was discussed and it was decided to vote on it in January. P.J. had another suggestion. He said the Post Office has an Every Door Direct Mailing. We would do a flyer that would be put in every mailbox on any route you choose. It has proven successful for many businesses. The cost would be 14 ½ cents per flyer to mail plus the cost of the flyers. It was suggested that we do this the first week in January for one route in Double Springs only as a test to see if it would make more people aware of the Society. P.J. made a motion and Jerry seconded. Motion carried. Rt. 3 Double Springs was chosen randomly.

Program:

Each person was asked to tell of any discoveries they’ve made in their genealogy research.

There were 10 people in attendance.

Meeting adjourned.

Treva Hood - sitting in for Cindy Guthrie who is very much missed!
