The Winston County Genealogical Society met at Winston County Archives in Double Springs.

I. Minutes:

    1. Minutes from the last meeting were read. Ronald made a motion to accept the minutes as read; Joyce seconded; and the motion carried.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

    1. Checking - $2960.25 (As of February 13th)
    2. Deposits since last meeting: $455.00
    3. Checks written since last meeting: $98.99 for toner cartridge; $80.75 to Arcadia; $92.32 for EDDM mailing; and $75.48 for scanner.

III. Old Business:

    1. Our handheld scanner quit working and another one was purchased.
    2. Unfortunately, we have had no response from our EDDM mailing. Apparently, it is not a good idea for us, though it may have helped to spread awareness of the society.
    3. Walker Web TV will be at our next meeting for making another video on Winston County. We have the opportunity to work on a plan on what we are going to present to them on their series "Special People and Places." They will also be filming our program at the next meeting, which will be Peggy Norris singing and talking about old folk songs.

IV. New Business:

    1. Darryal spoke with a group at Houston who are wanting to restore the old Houston Post Office. Darryal gave a history of the Houston area. They are working on making the old post office a community center.
    2. Robin Sterling reported that the roof of the old Map Post Office was blown off in a recent storm. We are hopeful someone will restore it.
    3. There will be a workshop in April in Eufala on electronic digitizing and fundraising for organizations.
    4. Treva recently mailed out our yearly letter to members about dues being due and what we accomplished in 2012.
    5. P.J. brought up the idea of doing Winston Roots, Vol. 2 on early marriages of the county. Darryal made the comment that it would be a good idea and a good thing for the county. Estimates on the cost of each book would be under $15 for an approximate 375 page book. P.J.’s idea was to include the first fifteen marriage books, indexed by groom and bride, which would bring it into the mid-1950s. Darryal made a motion to begin the work on the marriage book, and Jerry seconded. Ronald then made a motion that the society buy the books when complete. Jerry seconded, and the motion carried.
    6. Jerry brought a recent Alabama Heritage newsletter. A yearly subscription is $18.95. Darryal made a motion that the society subscribe, and Jerry seconded.

V. Program:

    1. None.
