The Winston County Genealogical Society met at the Winston County Archives in Double Springs. The meeting was called to order by President Treva Hood.

I. Minutes:

    1. Minutes from the last meeting were read by Vice-President Dianne Miller. Motion was made to accept minutes as read by Jerry Lovett; Darryal seconded, and the motion was carried.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

    1. Checking – beginning balance of $2960.25
    2. Deposits since last meeting: $420.60
    3. Checks written since last meeting: $420.20 (Breakdown of checks written- $22.95 University of Alabama for Heritage Subscription; $62.40 Haleyville Library for Heritage Book; $270 Downs & Associates for taxes; Treva Hood $70.85 for printing of newsletters)
    4. New balance as of March 19, 2013 is $2954.65
    5. Petty Cash Report-11/15/2012-03/18/2013; beginning balance $146.31; copies $31.75; balance of $178.06; book & newsletter mailings $10.18; stamps & letter mailings; $46.00; change for book $5.00 with a balance on 03/18/13 of $116.88.

III. Old Business:

    1. The EDDM mailings resulted in 5 new members.
    2. The new book which was approved for publishing was discussed.

IV. New Business:

    1. The book WINSTON ROOTS, VOL. II: Marriage Index Records of an Alabama County draft copy has arrived from the publisher for approval. 408 pages. The cost for the society to be published is $11.56 each for 59 copies the cost will be $11.70 each for a total of $690.47 shipping included plus a 5% discount. The book includes a Bride and Groom index. Motion was made by Ronald Jackson to order 59 copies of the book, Jerry Lovett seconded, and cost to WCGS members set at $12.00 with Dianne Miller making a motion and P.J. Gossett seconded. P.J. Gossett made a motion cost of the book for non-members be set at $20.00 and Joyce Farris seconded.
    2. The WCGS paid for the subscription to the magazine ALABAMA HERITAGE, published by the University of Alabama. Cost was $22.95 total plus a 1993 issue which contains good Winston County articles.
    3. Shelley Hess from the Northwest Alabamian newspaper made pictures at the Old Map Post Office, which was damaged in a recent storm. We are hoping this will draw interest in repairing this historic Winston County site.
    4. The March 2013 WCGS newsletters are printed and received.
    5. The school maps are still available to be purchased.
    6. The Society has an opportunity to apply for a grant which is issued from the Alabama Department of Archives and History for preservation of historical records. We would like to do the next 2 marriage books. If awarded, the grant would match funds 50/50 with the society. If they match $1200, we would match $1200, etc. Jerry Lovett made a motion to apply for the grant, and Dianne Miller seconded.
    7. The WCGS taxes were prepared and sent to IRS by Downs & Associates of Jasper for the sum of $270.00.
    8. An old Winston County coupon dated March 01, 1901 was brought in to the archives.

V. Program:

    1. Peggy Lovett Norris presented the March program. She sang folk songs that she had written about old times in Winston County, and Peggy spoke about her Winston County ancestors. She also brought several books about her ancestors to show the group.
