The Winston County Genealogical Society met at the Winston County Archives in Double Springs. The meeting was called to order by Vice-President Dianne Miller.

I. Minutes:

    1. Minutes from the last meeting were read by Vice-President Dianne Miller. Motion was made to accept minutes as read by Jerry Lovett; Ronald seconded, and the motion was carried.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

    1. Checking – beginning balance of $2954.65
    2. Deposits since last meeting: $134.00
    3. Checks written since last meeting: $722.81 ($48.16 for newsletter mailing and $674.65 for Winston Roots 2 book)
    4. New balance as of April 15, 2013 is $2365.84

III. Old Business:

    1. P.J. asked if the grant for digitizing the next two volumes of marriage records could be used toward the school records, or the Winston County Board of Education minutes, since no other copies exist. After discussion and learning that the paperwork had already been completed on the grant, it was decided to possibly do this as a future project.
    2. For the Free State Barn, more metal is in need of nailing down.
    3. Margaret and Larry Lee filmed portions of our last meeting for use on Walker Web TV’s "Special People and Places." It was added on their web site last week at www.walkerwebtv.com.
    4. P.J. created a new front page for the web site containing a slideshow.

IV. New Business:

    1. A new roof has been added to the old Map Post Office building that was damaged in a storm earlier this year. A recent newspaper article described the history of the building and the Map community. Also, there is a new group working on preserving and remodeling the old Houston Post Office.
    2. Winston Roots, Vol. 2: Marriage Index Records of an Alabama County was published on March 27, 2013. Copies are available at the archives. P.J. brought up that our publisher, Lulu.com, offers publishing services through Amazon. A certain percent may be taken out, but the book would be available for purchase online and would be printed after an order was placed, then shipped eliminating our need for a large amount of copies on hand and broadening the sales on the books. A separate checking account would be started to use online only for the sale of the books. Ronald made a motion to do this and Jerry seconded. P.J. will do research on it and carry forward unless the percentage is unreasonable. He will send out an e-mail to everyone.
    3. Ronald reported that findagrave.com has many Lawrence County cemeteries, as we have no cemetery books on Lawrence County.

V. Program:

    1. None

VI. Attendance: 13

Meeting adjourned.
