The Winston County Genealogical Society met at the Winston County Archives in Double Springs. The meeting was called to order by President Treva Hood.

I. Minutes:

    1. Minutes from the last meeting were read by Vice-President Dianne Miller. A motion was made to accept the minutes as read by Ronald Jackson; Joyce Farris seconded, and the motion was carried.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

    1. Checking – beginning balance of $2365.84
    2. Deposits since last meeting: $581.30
    3. Checks written since last meeting: $334.24 ($35 to Robin Sterling for a book sale; $62.40 to Haleyville Public Library for a book sale; and $236.84 to P.J. Gossett for Winston Roots, Vol. 1 order)
    4. New balance as of May 21, 2013 is $2612.90

III. Old Business:

    1. The paperwork on the grant for digitizing marriage records has not been submitted yet, due to an invoice needing to be itemized. The person digitizing the records will be getting in touch with Sheila Moore.
    2. There is no news on the Free State Barn.
    3. P.J. looked into selling our Winston Roots series through Amazon with the publisher Lulu.com. In preparing the new book to sell through Amazon, our cost of the book would be about $24, so the idea was abandoned. However, he did find that we could still sell our book online with a link on the web site where the book could be ordered and paid through Lulu.com. The publisher would reimburse the society by a check quarterly. The only drawback to doing this was that the society had to fill out and mail in a W-9. P.J. contacted Joseph Downs, our CPA, and he advised that any excess money the society earns could be offset for tax purposes. Darryal Jackson mentioned that it was just an accounting process and that the resulting 1099 mailed to the society every year from the publisher is a formality. Darryal made a motion to sell the books online, Jerry Lovett seconded, and the motion carried.
    4. Larry and Margaret Lee brought a DVD of their Winston County episode from Walker Web TV’s "Special People and Places."

IV. New Business:

    1. P.J. ordered 30 Winston Roots, Vol. 1 books.
    2. Joan White Crittenden has generously donated $100 to the society for help with the Free State Barn or anything we deem necessary and has donated research books.
    3. Treva mentioned that the subscriptions to Ancestry.com and Fold3 were about to expire. Jerry Lovett made a motion to renew the subscription, Dianne Miller seconded, and the motion carried.
    4. Dianne donated an Andersonville book, and Angela Barnett has donated a family genealogy book on the Shelton and Hawkins families.
    5. Darryal is in the process of identifying the people on the front of the Free State of Winston pictorial book.
    6. Eunice Tidwell of the Walker County Genealogical Society gave Jerry a Files family genealogy book to donate to the society.
    7. Unidentified photos in the Haleyville area from Billie Fortenberry were passed around for identification.
    8. There will be a Lovett and Thomas family reunion at Henryfield Church on Saturday, May 25th, also the date of a Hood reunion at Rocky Ravine Park.
