The Winston County Genealogical Society met at the Winston County Archives in Double Springs. The meeting was called to order by President Treva Hood.
I. Minutes:
- Minutes from the last meeting were read by Vice-President Dianne Miller. A motion was made to accept the minutes as read by Dianne Miller. Angela Barnett seconded, and the motion was carried.
II. Treasurer’s Report:
- Checking – beginning balance of $2612.90
- Deposits since last meeting: $474.50
- Checks written since last meeting: $70 to Robin Sterling for two books, $53.90 to the USPS for mailing of newsletters and two books
- New balance as of June 18, 2013 is $2963.50
- Petty Cash Report (3/19/2013-6/17/2013): beginning balance of $116.88; money deposited for copies: $41.00; change made, large bill deposited to WCGS: $20.65; mailing: $19.83; ending balance: $117.40
III. Old Business:
- The grant application for digitizing the marriage records has been sent in. It will be September or October before we know if we receive the grant..
- The two Winston Roots books are now available online at www.freestateofwinston.org. They can be purchased through the publisher, Lulu.com.
IV. New Business:
- A painting was located of the old Amos/Pole Cat School in the basement of Henryfield Church. A photo was taken and printed at the archives.
- Treva mentioned that a new copy machine cartridge will need to be ordered.
- There is a new book at the archives on the songs and history of the Speer Family.
- Robin Sterling’s new newspaper book on the Daily Mountain Eagle was recently published.
- The June 2013 newsletter is out.
- Floyd Guthrie mentioned about trying to get Rick Watson from the Daily Mountain Eagle to speak to us at one of our meetings.
- There will be a Farris reunion on the first Saturday after the 4th of July at Crossroads Church.
