The Winston County Genealogical Society met at Winston County Archives in Double Springs.

  1. Minutes:
    1. Minutes from the last meeting were read. Pat Owsley made motion to accept the minutes as read Dianne Miller and Darryal Jackson seconded; the motion carried.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

    1. Checking $2,728.05 +$578.20-$345.64=$2960.61
    2. 6/18/2013-9/16/2013 $117.40-$45.50=$162.90-$5.69+$40.00=$117.21

III. Old Business:

    1. Trevia explained the $150.00 for the micro film, 2 being for PJ
    2. Joan White Crittenden sent 2 dvd’s to PJ that has family reunions from the 1940’s or the 1950’s. She mentioned that someone else has the originals but that we would never be able to get them. PJ said if he ever gets any spare time he will add names and do additional work to the DVS’s.
    3. Trevia explained that no word as of yet on the grants, hopefully we will hear something soon.
    4. 3 new members

IV. New Business:

    1. Ronald Jackson caused quite of bit of excitement when he noticed that Morgan County was getting a hefty discount on the cost of mailing their newsletters. However, PJ said this was 2013 and that they have $1.00 stamps and advised all parties to get eyes checked.
    2. PJ has requested help with December’s newsletter and Cindy volunteered to help.
    3. Darryal Jackson met September 12, 2013 with Chad Fell from the newspaper, Mayor, Greg Pendley school superintendent, and 2 architects where they discussed at length the old rock building. They would like to save the building and perhaps use it as some sort of museum for historical reasons. However, monies are an issue. Trevia asked if there was any structure damage. Darryal said there was not, but that the roof needed work and that the building needed to be cleaned out. Trevia thanked Darryal for attending the meeting.
    4. There was discussion on the graveyard on the other side of Kenlock Falls. Darryal explained how the graves were laid in a unique pattern. He also mentioned that in his research he found out that the cemetery had been dug for study to verify if the graves are that of slaves.
    5. Jean Allen is making a map of all the cemeteries located in the forest as per Ronald Jackson
    6. Trevia showed the Green book donated by Ina Morris,
    7. James Hadder’s daughter donated her father’s entire works that he had done concerning the areas cemeteries. It was very easy to see that he had put in hours of work on this project. Ronald volunteered to go through all of it and see what was duplicates of what we already have and what new information can be found.
