The Winston County Genealogical Society met at Winston County Archives in Double Springs.

Trevia asked Dianne to conduct the meeting tonight.

  1. Minutes:
    1. Minutes from the last meeting were read. Trevia Hood made motion to accept the minutes as read Audrey Boyd seconded; the motion carried.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

    1. Checking $2,669.74-549.99-50.00=$2,677.28 Cindy Guthrie paid $64.00 to WCGS for difference in the price of the laptop and stand alone.
    2. No Petty Cash Report

III. Old Business:

    1. Trevia explained the situation with the microfilm and the grant money, also that we will match funds for the digitizing of the marriage books.
    2. Trevia also explained about the historical artifacts that Rick Harris brought in that had been found at the Houston Jail. She also explained how Chad Fell had taken pictures of the items and had written an article about them that is going to appear in the paper very soon.
    3. Darryal explained about the Davey Crocket and the History Channel 2 program Amercia Unearthed had spoken to him and that they had enjoyed our website, but had not mentioned anymore about Davey Crocket living in this area of Alabama.

IV. New Business:

    1. Robin’s 1st book is here for y’all to look at; Marion County is very excited about these books and appreciates everything that we have done for them to be done. Robin is due to meet with Marion County and has inferred to make an equal exchange book for book with them for the Archives.
    2. Uncle Dick Payne is at the jail now and looks amazing. Everyone is encouraged to go see him when afforded the chance. The print was donated to the Archives from Steve Turner, and is going to be framed and hung as soon as possible.
    3. Jerry Lovett brought several items about the Tittle and Files families to donate to the archives from Eunice Tidwell.
    4. Dianne mentioned how hard we are working on the Pioneer Book. That this book will be completely about the early Winston pioneers and settlers, who came to the county prior to 1900? All of the information for this book came directly from the newspapers through1939.
