The Winston County Genealogical Society met at the Winston County Archives in Double Springs.

I. Minutes:

    1. Minutes from the last meeting were read by P.J. Gossett. Ronald made a motion to accept the minutes as read; Joyce seconded and the motion carried.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

    1. None.

III. Old Business:

A. Joyce brought photos of the process of the Willis Farris bust, along with his new tombstone. The bust is currently made of clay but will later be made out of bronze with a concrete foundation. Current proceeds are $12,000, with a total cost of $15,000. The next meeting will be at the Galley Restaurant in Haleyville on July 29th at 6:00 P.M.

B. The audio library is being added to. The program last month on the Cheatham Road was added also.

V. New Business:

A. Beth Kendrick donated a painting by Annis Evans of the Ingle/Blake house. Rick Harris also brought us a courthouse stone from the north wall annex, circa 1930.

B. The inventory at the archives was completed recently with one book, the History of Alabama by Pickett, found missing. Dianne Miller found another copy at the thrift store and is donating it.

C. Our June newsletter had an article on New Prospect that told about the old section of the cemetery not being a slave section as many assume. The actual slave graves are at another location near Forkville at the old Hughes cotton gin location. Chad Fell will look into finding more information for us.

VI. Program:

A. None.

  1. Attendance: 11

Meeting adjourned.
