The Winston County Genealogical Society met at the Winston County Archives in Double Springs.

I. Minutes:

    1. Minutes from the last meeting were read by Dianne Miller. There was one correction, adding to the program that "Steve also spoke about Willis Farris and the memorial." Otherwise, Jerry Lovett made a motion to accept the minutes as read; Darryal Jackson seconded and the motion carried.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

    1. Beginning Balance: $1,442.74
    2. Deposits: $108.00
    3. Checks: $81.75 for newsletter printing
    4. Ending Balance: $1,468.99

III. Old Business:

A. Lisa Brock’s paintings on the Winston County Courthouse and Haleyville Courthouse are complete and at the archives.

B. Treva, Cindy, and Dianne are typing on the next Winston Roots book. They will type the rest of the month, with a cutoff date of September 30th for volume one. They want to have it available by the November meeting. A possible book meeting will be needed before completion.

C. The base for the Willis Farris bust looks completed. We received a formal invitation on September 26th at the Houston Jail at 10:00 A.M. The historical marker dedication will be the next day at Carbon Hill Pisgah Cemetery.

D. Chad Fell’s article was published in the Northwest Alabamian on August 30th about our 200th meeting.

E. The Tidwell Reunion was September 6th. Dianne interviewed Edith Howton, age 98, the only living grandchild of John Love Cagle. This was added to the audio library, along with an interview of Dianne’s mother, Faye Ellenburg.

IV. New Business:

A. The newsletter has been published. We received the Coweta County, GA newsletter. Dianne spoke about her trip to the Hancock County, GA Courthouse that burned recently.

B. We received royalties in the amount of $49 from Lulu.com for book sales.

C. Taylor Tales, a new book that contains descendants of John and Eliza Taylor, has been published by Linda Munroe. After discussion, P.J. made a motion to purchase a copy of the book. Ronald seconded, and the motion carried.

D. A seminar by the Alabama Genealogical Society will be October 11th in Montgomery.

E. P.J. is doing a new book, this time on the Winston County High School. He also mentioned that Theresa Snoddy, Hoyett Wolfe’s daughter, let him borrow the first Winsaga annual, which was in 1948, and he scanned it at high quality.

F. Treva wanted to know if the society would like to donate microfilm to the Haleyville Public Library. These microfilm are newspapers that were purchased for Robin Sterling. Darryal made a motion to donate them, Joyce Farris seconded, and the motion carried.

G. Rick Harris has donated a new desk to the archives.

H. Amos (Polecat) School reunion will be September 20th at 10:00 at Henryfield Church. The Kelley reunion is the 3rd Saturday in October, and the Taylor reunion is September 27th.
