The Winston County Genealogical Society met at the Winston County Archives in Double Springs.

I. Minutes:

    1. Minutes from the last meeting were read by P.J. Gossett. P.J. made a motion to accept the minutes as read; Trevia Hood seconded and the motion carried.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

    1. Beginning Balance: $1,468.99
    2. Deposits: $172.00
    3. Checks: $63.07 for newsletter mailing; $105.00 to Byars/Wright for Dishonesty Policy
    4. Ending Balance: $1,472.92

III. Old Business:

A. Taylor Tales by Linda Munroe was donated to the society by Linda.

B. Trevia has interviewed her mother, Pauline Watts, for our audio library. Both recorders are available for use

C. Leasa Brock is working on a mural map of the county with historical places. She needs our input on historical items to include.

D. The next Winston Roots book is nearing completion, as it’s almost ready to start being put together. This will include pioneers mentioned in newspaper articles through 1939.

E. Joyce brought photos of the Willis Farris bust and monument dedication and reported a good turn out. She also brought a framed roster of sheriffs of Winston County. Roy said thanks for our donations and that it was appreciated. Joyce also let us copy the bio she read at the dedication.

IV. New Business:

A. New at the archives are the Walker County and Alabama Heritage newsletters. We also have a book Cindy donated, Dead Towns of Alabama. Dianne Miller brought in a 1948 Havala annual, and her son brought in a 1929 Haleyville annual, the Memoriam. Both were scanned to the computer.

B. P.J. brought up the idea of selling past newsletters online. The best direction may be using an online store, probably Shopify. Before we can continue, the newsletters would have to be indexed. Raven Millwood is working on an index, continuing where the LDS left off.

V. Program:

A. P.J. brought a DVD movie of 1930s Nauvoo and Carbon Hill.

  1. Attendance: 9

Meeting adjourned.
