The Winston County Genealogical Society met at the Winston County Archives in Double Springs.

I. Minutes:

A. Minutes from the last meeting were read. Pat Owsley made a motion to approve the minutes as read; Betty Hood and Kenneth Ward seconded; and the motion carried.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

    1. Beginning Balance: $2,472.46
    2. Deposits: $395.00
    3. Checks: $160.74 - $87.20, UPS Store, newsletter printing; $73.54, USPS, newsletter mailing
    4. Ending Balance: $2,706.72

III. Old Business:

    1. Winston Roots, Vol. 4 is being worked on and getting close to possible publication in a couple weeks hopefully. Robin Sterling has provided a photo collage for the front cover.
    2. Robin brought and donated a framed photo of an Addison grist mill. We as the society are looking for more photos of the Addison area.

IV. New Business:

    1. Robin donated his latest book of newspapers on Marshall County, Alabama from 1880 to 1891.
    2. Dianne Miller has donated a book on the Perry family.
    3. We are getting newsletters from the Crenshaw County Historical Society and the Autauga County Genealogical Society. The latest issues are in.
    4. The Thomas and Lovett reunion is April 30th at Henryfield Church.
    5. Treva and Dianne has a list of books available on Morgan County. Since we don’t have much material on Morgan County, it was brought up if the society would like to purchase the two cemetery books, a death records book, and an orphan court registers book. The cost will be about $170 plus shipping. Betty Hood made a motion to purchase, Pat Owsley seconded, and the motion carried.
    6. Chad Fell mentioned that a traveling museum called Hometown Heroes that contains sports memorabilia will have a grand opening at Old King’s Department Store on Main Street in Haleyville on April 24th from 3 to 5. Haleyville has included much memorabilia, and other Winston County schools should get involved for this historical display. There is no charge for attendance.
    7. The play "Incident at Looney’s Tavern" has been revived, and the entire cast will consist of students from schools all over the county. The play will start this week at the Double Springs Middle School gym.

V. Program:

    1. Kenneth Ward, President of the Haleyville Historical Society, gave a presentation on the history of Haleyville. Included in the discussion was the early beginnings of Ark and Hughes City, following Main Street and downtown, cotton gins and mills, building of railroads, schools, and other notable businesses of the past.
