The Winston County Genealogical Society met at the Winston County Archives in Double Springs.

Minutes:

Minutes from the last meeting were read. Pat Owsley made a motion to approve the minutes as read; Angela Barnett and Carolyn Hunter seconded; and the motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report:

Beginning Balance: $2,706.72

Check: $158.25

Ending Balance: $2,548.47

Old Business:

Winston Roots, Vol. 4 is not completed but is getting very close. The Lovett-Thomas Reunion was enjoyed by all. The Morgan County books approved from the last meeting have arrived. The Smithsonian traveling museum has opened a couple days a week. It will be open thru the weekend of the 911 Festival.

New Business:

The Tucker Reunion will be Saturday, May 21st, at Hopewell Cemetery. These are the descendants of George Tucker.

The "From the Vault" NWA series this month was about Confederate Soldier Eugene B. Falls.

Diane Parvin donated a book to the Society entitled "The Heritage of Hall County, Georgia" in honor of her ancestors from that area. These ancestors are Jesse Daniel and Sarah Jarome (Barton) Hyde. She would love to hear from anyone connected to these persons.

Dianne’s thrift store finds for this month include a book on The French and Indian Wars, The United States in the Spanish-American War and The Model City of the New South, Anniston, Alabama.

Program:

Sister Janell Millyard presented a program on using the research website, familysearch.org. She walked us through the website and gave us wonderful insights on this very useful genealogical tool.
