The Winston County Genealogical Society met at the Winston County Archives in Double Springs.

I. Minutes:

    1. Minutes from the last meeting were read. Ronald Jackson made a motion to accept the minutes as read; Jerry Lovett seconded; and the motion carried.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

    1. Beginning Balance: $2,548.47
    2. Deposits: $340.86
    3. Checks: $392.45: UPS Store, newsletter printing, $97.00; Ancestry & Fold3, subscription renewals, $228.95; Cindy Guthrie, toner cartridge; $66.50
    4. Ending Balance: $2,496.88

III. Petty Cash Report (1/19/2016 – 6/20/2016):

    1. Beginning Balance: $68.03
    2. Copies: $67.75
    3. Expenses (Plaque for Darryal & Computer Battery): $32.16
    4. Ending Balance: $103.62

IV. Old Business:

    1. Winston Roots Vol. 4 is closer to completion. All articles have been transcribed. Currently, all that is left is proofing and indexing. Cindy is already typing for volume five.
    2. The Tucker Reunion had good attendance. Dianne Miller sold about $250 worth of books.

V. New Business:

    1. New book donations include Rayford and Mary Hyatt’s transcriptions of Lawrence County Cemeteries. Robin Sterling donated three volumes of Morgan County Tidbits along with his latest Marshall County newspaper book for the years 1892 to 1900. Dianne Miller’s book donations include a Tennessee Historical Markers, Barefoot Dreams concerning Walker County, War of 1812, and How Indians Lost Their Lands.
    2. We have received a check from Lulu in the amount of $47.36 for book sales.
    3. Ancestry and Fold3 subscriptions have been renewed for another year.
    4. Jerry Lovett had a question on the location of old place mentions. Dianne suggested to leave these questions on our Facebook page and that we might mention these monthly on getting the location or information on them. P.J. said that there is a place on our web site that has latitude and longitude coordinates for old places, schools, and cemeteries.
    5. James Horsley, husband of Sandy, recently passed away. Dianne asked the membership about purchasing something for the archives in his name. Everyone was agreeable.
    6. A Sacred Harp singing will be at Shady Grove this Saturday and Sunday.
    7. The latest newsletter is out. We need more material for the next one.
    8. A movie is being released this weekend called "Free State of Jones." WIAT CBS 42 and the Northwest Alabamian has been in contact doing interviews concerning the parallels between the movie and Winston County.

VI. Program:

    1. Peggy Lovett Norris gave a program on the focus of family to appreciate the heritage of Winston County. She shared music and books on her family of Hamner, Hendon, and Taylor.
