The Winston County Genealogical Society met at the Winston County Archives in Double Springs.

I. Minutes:

    1. Minutes from the last meeting were read.
    2. Betty Hood made a motion to approve the minutes as read.
    3. Ronald Jackson seconded and the motion carried.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

    1. Beginning Balance: $2,496.88
    2. Deposits: $120.00
    3. Checks: $474.03: $67.32, USPS, newsletter mailing; $406.71, Lulu, book order
    4. Ending Balance: $2,142.85

III. Old Business:

    1. The draft copy of Winston Roots Vol. 4 is in, and everything looks good. Lulu is having a 30% discount offer right, and we will place an order.
    2. Referring to our next newsletter issue and the request for more articles, we have enough articles now but always looking for future articles.
    3. Treva Hood sold $120 worth of books at the Bailey reunion, and Lynn Bailey made a $30 donation.

IV. New Business:

    1. Treva will be ordering an additional shelf for the archives.
    2. Next year, there will be an "Around Historical Alabama in 12 Days" event. Each Alabama county will have representatives on Skype to explain about their county. P.J. and Dianne were nominated to do Winston County.
    3. We received an e-mail from the OCI Yearbook Project based in Oklahoma. They digitize yearbooks for free, and it’s state funded through the prison system. After discussion, we decided to bring this up to the board of education to see if they would like to pursue this. Robin Sterling also suggested to check into the company as well. P.J. made a motion to give this to the board of education, Betty Hood seconded, and the motion carried.
    4. Joanne Martin has donated three WCHS yearbooks, including the 1948 annual, two C.C.C. books, a Transit Notes book concerning roads in the forest, and two Sacred Harp books. J.L. Rice has donated family information on the Howell and Seymour families. Dianne donated a Magnificent Mountain Women book, and P.J. donated one titled Prehistory of North America.
    5. Ronald Jackson suggested a future reprint of the 1983 Double Springs Scrapbook, as someone recently came to the archives in search of one.
    6. Raven Millwood has brought a new cemetery to the society’s attention. It’s called the Old Hood Cemetery near Shiloh Cemetery in Rabbittown. We are tentatively planning to clean it in October. P.J. will visit it first and get the coordinates to determine whether it’s on forest land or not.

V. Program:

    1. While doing research on Marshall County newspapers, Robin Sterling found an article describing Winston County dated in 1899, which he gave background on and read to us.

VI. Attendance:
