M.P. "Sammy" Gossett, 52, of Double Springs, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, in Birmingham. Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, at Enon Missionary Baptist Church near Lynn. Rev. Mickey Crane officiated the service. Burial followed in the adjoining cemetery.

Gossett was born on May 16, 1956, in Haleyville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.P. "Pete" and Perlean Martin Gossett, and a sister, Martha Lue Gossett.

He is survived by his son, Peter Jerome Gossett, Haleyville; two sisters, Judy Sue Gossett and Bessie Lue (Gary) Kelley, all of Double Springs; a nephew, William Eugene Kelley, Double Springs; an uncle; three aunts, and a host of other relatives and friends. Nichols Funeral Home of Double Springs directed.
