William Lafayette Morgan, the third child of Charles Tigg Morgan
and Rebecca Caroline Thomas, was born on March 30,1878 in Cullman County,
Alabama. He married Julieann Elizabeth Bates in Winston County, Alabama.
The birth date is probably correct since William is listed as a
two-year-old on the1880 census for Cullman County Alabama. The marriage
date of June 25, 1890 is wrong for he would have only been twelve years old
and she would have been six years old at the date of their marriage. The
information was obtained from page eighteen of the Winston County, Alabama
Marriages 1891 to 1900. Their first child was born in 1898 and their second
child was born on March 10, 1901. They were probably married in 1896 or 1897.
He died on February 14, 1943 and is buried in Corinth Cemetery #2 West in
Cullman County.
Julieann Elizabeth Bates was born on November 19, 1884 in
Georgia. She died on January 17, 1936 in Cullman County, on Danville Route 7
and is buried in Corinth Cemetery #2 West in Cullman County, Alabama.
Her father, Eliphas W. Bates, was born in 1835. His marriage to
Mary E. Chandler on June 12,1853 was recorded in Carroll County, Georgia in
Book C1 Page 204. Mary E. Chandler was born in 1830.
A second marriage of Eliphas W. Bates to Sarah E. Hayes on June 8,
1871 was recorded in Book K1 page 174 and Book D page 214 Carroll County,
Georgia.
Any information on these families would be appreciated. Charles Tigg
Morgan was my husband's great grandfather.
