Ashley Hewitt Lovett was b., 05 Dec, 1835 AL., d. 19 Aug., 1918 Winston Co., and is buried at Liberty Grove Cemetery at Ashridge. He lived in and around Ashridge, but also lived in Haleyville. He married Nancy Elizabeth Dickerson. He joined the Union Army, Co. A., 1st ALA. Cav., and was mustered into rank 08 Sept., 1862. He was sent to Corinth, MS. as a private, and was promoted to Srg. 18 Dec., 1862. He was mustered out of service 16 Sept., 1863 by reason of expiration of term of service. He was then mustered back into service 04 Dec., 1863 to Camp Davis, MS. From March to December 1864, Ashley was absent with leave, recruiting men in Alabama, by order of Maj. Cramer. He was mustered back out on 13 July, 1865 in Nashville, TN. He served under Capt. Francis Marion Posey. Thanks to Dianne Miller for the picture.
