Grandpa Rev. William W. Fondren wrote a poem about the town of Haleyville, and it was printed in the Haleyville paper in 1931. The town of Haleyville gave him a 5 dollar gold coin in appreciation of the poem as stated in a letter I have that he wrote in Jan. 1932 to his sister. He was born in Jackson County, AL and moved first to Natural Bridge before moving to South Haleyville and lived there until his death in 1935. He is buried at Concord Cemetery at Natural Bridge. The photo was taken about 1897 or 1898.
