This is the old Blake House that was located behind Dr. Blake's old office in Double Springs (across from the courthouse). Years ago, the Winston Commission owned this plot of land, and they proposed to tear it down and construct a $1 million plus multi-purpose community center, which would have included a new jail. The Free-State Historical Society obtained a temporary injunction to keep the Commission from tearing it down, declaring it should be preserved as an historical site. Eventually, it was torn down and only a parking lot is there now. Photo courtesy of the Northwest Alabamian.
