A meeting of the citizens of Winston, Walker & Marion Counties of Ala. & held a convention in beat No 1, of Winston County that whereas we certify that we will be governed by the Constitution guaranteed to us by our fore fathers of the United States of America, then a motion was made & seconded by the committee that we resist any laws to coerce the people of these counties for the purpose of raising the Malitia or drafting contrary to the Constitution of the United States of America, then a motion was made & seconded by the committee that we resist any law of forceing or collecting any unlawful Tax imposed upon the people of these counties contrary to the Constitution of the United States of America, then a motion was made & seconded by the committee that we resist any power of collecting any fines assessed against the citizens of these counties for not mustering contrary to the Constitution of the United States of America, then a motion was made & seconded by the committee that we resist any person from running their slaves into the above named counties for the purpose of secretion unless the rover becomes a citizen thereof, then a motion was made & seconded by the committee that we appoint A.J. Ingle Capt of beat no. 1 of Winston County & D.D. Smith Capt of beat no. 8 of Marion County & S. Morphree Capt. of beat no 1, in Walker County until there is some election for the purpose of oppressing all unconstitutional acts, the said Capts. will raise a flag of peace, the above is signed by George Hallmark, Wm Miles, Thos Harper, Charles Cook, Green Miles of Marion & Clinton Tittle, A.J. Ingle, Harrison Sims, A. Smith & others in Winston. Silas Morphree, Paulus Ingle of Walker.
